AS H A 56 2016 ASHA 50 2016 Bret Stephens, Wall Street Journal Bret Stephens, winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, is the foreign affairs columnist and dep- uty editorial page editor of The Wall Street Journal. He was previously the editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post and has written for Foreign Affairs and Commentary, among other publications. Mr. Stephens holds an under- graduate degree from the Univer- sity of Chicago, and a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics. Karl A. Pillemer, Ph.D, Cornell University Karl A. Pillemer, Ph.D, is a professor of human devel- opment at Cornell University and professor of geron- tology in medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College. An internationally renowned gerontologist, his research exam- ines how people develop and change throughout their lives. He has authored five books and over 100 scientific publications, and speaks throughout the world on aging-related issues. In a groundbreaking research project, Dr. Pillemer decided to find out what older people know about life that the rest of us don't. This project led to his best-selling book, 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans. Dr. Pillemer is the recipient of the first-ever ASHA University Research Grant and has been working on a project focused on improving collaboration and communication between families of residents and staff. He is also involved in the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures, of which ASHA is a Founding Member, which will integrate hospitality, management, policy and design to enhance service excellence in senior living, health care and wellness.
